About Kass

Kass Naidoo is a media specialist with a keen interest in sport, and the use of social media to connect sports fans.

Since starting work as a vacation reporter for the Mercury newspaper in 1996, Kass has worked across print, radio, television and online media.

Today Kass is widely regarded as an award-winning sports journalist, who defied the odds to achieve her childhood dream of becoming South Africa’s first woman television cricket commentator at the age of 27.

This achievement has been recognised in a BBC World Service documentary on BBC radio commentary, to mark the 90th anniversary of the BBC’s first radio football commentary in 1927.

Since her cricket broadcasting debut in 2003, Kass has hosted four World Cups for SABC Sport, and presented and commentated on a host of Test, ODI and T20s, including the Mzansi Super League.

Kass has also hosted the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2016 Paralympic Games for the public broadcaster.

Her CV includes four years with Cricket South Africa (2008-2012), working across Commercial, Marketing, Events, Communications and Social Media, with a focus on growing and shaping the brands of CSA and the Proteas.

Promoting sport and South Africa at every opportunity, Kass uses various platforms to indulge these twin passions. Her most visible of contributions is as Founder of The gsport Trust, an online initiative she launched in August 2006 to raise the profile of women in sport.

2021 marks the 15th year since Kass launched the gsport initiative to raise the profile of women’s sport in South Africa.

The gsport initiative runs a 24/7 newsroom telling positive stories of women’s sport. It also hosts the Momentum gsport Awards, Africa’s longest running women’s sport recognition platform.

In 2019, Kass was on-boarded by Brand South Africa as a Play Your Part Ambassador, to fly the flag for South African sport.

Kass travelled to Pakistan in 2020 to commentate on the HBL Pakistan Super League.

In July 2021, Kass made her Sky Sports Cricket debut as host of The Hundred, cricket’s latest innovative tournament aimed at the new generation.

This December, Kass will mark 25 years in the media industry.

A professional MC and speaker, Kass is proud to have been engaged by leading brands including SABC Sport, South African Breweries, MTN, SPAR, KFC, Powerade, Suzuki, Standard Bank, FNB, ABSA, Momentum and Oracle.

Kass is an active member on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

She and husband Ryk Meiring live in Johannesburg, South Africa, and are proud parents of their three amazing children, Daniel, Ella and Luke.
